What is Golgi?

Created by the Oxbridge Biotech Roundtable, Golgi is the world’s first online platform dedicated to improving the recruiting ecosystem specifically within healthcare and life sciences startups and SMEs. We do this by connecting companies at the bleeding edge of these industries directly to highly skilled candidates from across OBR’s 30,000-strong global network.

In addition to matching exceptional candidates with exciting startup and SME careers, Golgi is aimed at improving the ecosystem by empowering both the nascent companies and jobseekers in our network to continuously grow and learn (both about the recruitment process, and about the industry itself).

The Golgi platform thus consists of:
  • The Golgi Board, which enables startups to instantly make their positions available to the entirety of OBR’s vast member-base.
  • Golgi Select – via which startups can search and browse candidates by skillset, work experience and more, and ‘cherry-pick’ those who precisely suit their needs.
  • The Golgi Blog, where we provide both jobseekers and startups with timely information and sound advice leveraged from leading experts across the life sciences ecosystem (and beyond).
For Job Seekers (Candidates)
Why should I use Golgi?
Golgi is the world’s first platform dedicated to matching outstanding candidates with their future careers in startups and SMEs across healthcare and the life sciences. If these are your areas of interest, there are many reasons why Golgi is the best place to be:

  • We also provide you with a platform to showcase your experience and skills to hundreds of companies in one go, via Golgi Select – so in addition to applying to jobs that interest you, you’ll also be contacted directly by companies who think you’re a great match for their roles. 
  • Last, but not least, it’s critical to us that candidates we introduce to our partner companies are highly informed (and passionate) about the career paths they’re about to embark on. As such, we also provide expert advice (sourced from luminaries across academia, industry and beyond) to help you self-educate on the application process, the startup ecosystem and the industry – meaning you’ll shine during the application process (and well beyond).
How do I search for jobs?
Simply click on the ‘Current Vacancies’ tab at the top of the Golgi page to reach the listings of our current vacancies. 

Once here, you can:
  • Search vacancies by location, position name or company name.
  • Filter vacancies by role type and category - via the filter options on the left hand side of the page.
How do I apply for a job?
You’ll need to be logged into your Golgi applicant account in order to submit a job application. The process of applying for a job is as follows:

  • Navigate to the page for that job (e.g. by clicking the job listing on the homepage or the ‘current vacancies’ page).  
  • Select the ‘Apply’ button in the top right hand corner of the job page.
  • Upload your application documents on the resulting page, and once you’re happy with these, select the ‘Submit Application’ button.

You’ll only need to upload your CV and Cover Letter in order to apply – we’ll take all of the other information required from your candidate profile (so do ensure this is completed and up to date before applying). 

Note: The Golgi team strongly advise you to take the time to tailor your CV and cover letter to each job you apply to, rather than submitting applications to as many jobs as possible. A ‘blanket’ approach to job applications is easy to spot (and unlikely to lead to success) – unlike an application which is clearly well thought-out, and illustrates that you are genuinely interested in a specific role at a particular company.
How can I be sure an employer received my application?
When you click ‘Apply’ on a job posting in order to submit your application, the startup / SME you applied to will receive a notification (including a link to your full candidate profile), both via email and via their candidate management system on the Golgi site.

Furthermore, when you submit your application:
  • You will receive an email notification containing your application details – this will be sent to the email address you used to register for the Golgi platform.
  • Your application will also be logged on your ‘Application History’ page (reached via the account dropdown list in the top right hand corner of the page, when logged into your Golgi applicant account). 
What if I find a job I like, but I’m not ready to apply yet?
No problem – you can bookmark jobs that pique your interest, and return at a later time to complete the applications for these at your leisure.
How do I fill in and edit my candidate profile?

When you register for a Golgi account (as an applicant), you’ll be prompted to fill in your candidate profile with your personal details, work experience and education history for the first time.

Try and provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date information possible when filling in your profile – this ensures you’ll look your best to any companies who receive your applications or view your profile (meaning they’re all the more likely to progress your application to the next stage, or invite you to apply for their positions!).

If you wish to edit any of your profile details at a later time, simply visit the profile editing page by selecting the ‘Edit Candidate Profile’ option on the account dropdown list (visible in the top right hand corner of the page, when logged into your Golgi applicant account).

Candidates: Who can see my profile?

Your profile is only visible to yourself, and companies that you have submitted an application to.

Note: The profile editing page can be accessed by selecting the ‘Edit Candidate Profile’ option from the account dropdown list (visible in the top right hand corner of the page, when logged into your Golgi applicant account).

How do I know if my application to a job has been successful?

You can view the status of your applications via the ‘Application History’ page - accessed via the account dropdown list  (visible in the top right hand corner of the page, when logged into your Golgi applicant account).

  • If your application has been submitted, but not yet reviewed: The status of your application will read ‘Applied’.
  • Once the company has acknowledged your application: The status of your application will be changed to ‘Under Review’. 
  • If your application has been progressed to the next stage in the process: If a company has decided to move you on to the next stage in the process (generally meaning an interview), you'll receive email correspondence directly from that company. Good luck!
  • If your application has been successful (generally after one or more interview stages): Congratulations! If you’ve been successful in your application, you’ll receive correspondence (and your offer) directly from the company. Best of luck in your new role!
  • If your application has been unsuccessful: The status of your application on the ‘Application History’ page will have been changed to ‘declined’. If this occurs, don’t be discouraged! Just because you’re not the right fit for one role doesn’t mean you won’t be perfect in another – so keep searching for, and applying to roles which match your interests.
For employers (startups and SME's)
How can I match candidates with my roles?

Golgi provides two strategies to match your vacancies with the perfect candidate from our network:

  • The traditional ‘job board’ offering (i.e. posting your job on the Golgi site and waiting for candidates from our vast global community to apply)
  • We'll also soon be launching the Golgi Select candidate database, via which you can search for and ‘cherry-pick’ applicants whose experience / skill sets match your needs (and you’ll be able to directly invite those who really pique your interest to apply for your roles) - we'll let you know as soon as it's ready.
How do I post a job?

You’ll need to be logged into your Golgi company account in order to submit a job posting. The process of posting a job is as follows:

  1. Select the ‘post a job’ option from the account dropdown list (visible in the top right hand corner of the page).
  2. Fill the details of your vacancy into the resulting form.
  3. Select the ‘Submit’ button at the bottom of the page.
  4. Enter your payment details when prompted.
  5. Your posting will then be submitted to the Golgi team for approval, and will appear on the site within 24 hours after submission.

Can I post roles which are not based in a life sciences or healthcare startup / SME?

We have to insist that all roles submitted are based in startups and SMEs within healthcare and the life sciences.

This is because Golgi offers a very targeted approach, with a targeted audience. OBR’s 30,000-strong network is made up of people whose skill sets – and interests – lie within healthcare and the life sciences, and it is the needs of the applicants and companies specifically within these areas that Golgi was created to address.

What does ‘featuring’ a job entail?

Whilst posted jobs will appear on the ‘Current Vacancies’ page, and will be accessible to candidates via the search / filter options on this page.

However, Golgi also offers additional ‘feature’ packages for those looking to improve the visibility of their postings to the Golgi jobseeker community and beyond – in order to receive more applications, faster – and attract the attention of top candidates. 

These are as follows:

Featured Job (+$49 / job)

  • Your job will appear at the top of listings pages, highlighted in a different colour (for 60 days).
  • We’ll promote your position twice per week to our global network via our social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn). 
  • Our data shows that featured posts receive around 5x more views than basic posts.

Job Spotlight (+$99 / job)

  • Your job will be featured prominently on the Golgi Homepage, easily visible to every visitor to the site (for 60 days).
  • We’ll also send your role out in our bimonthly mailer to our entire 30,000-strong community.
  • Of course, you’ll also receive all of the benefits of the ‘featured job’ package (see above)

These features may be:

  • Purchased during the job posting process
  • Added to a job post at a later time via the ‘manage jobs’ page (accessed via the account dropdown list visible in the top right hand corner of the page (when logged into your Golgi company account).

I’ve just posted a job – when will it appear on the site?

All job posts are reviewed by the Golgi team before they are made visible on the board. This process will take no longer than 24 hours after job submission.

How do I edit or delete job posts?

Submitted jobs postings may be edited or deleted at any time by selecting the ‘Manage Jobs’ option on the account dropdown list (which is visible in the top right hand corner of the page, when logged into your employer Golgi account).

Simply find the relevant job posting in the current jobs table – the ‘edit’ and ‘delete’ buttons are visible on the right hand side of the table.

How much does Golgi cost?

Featuring Jobs

Golgi offers two feature packages for those looking to enhance the visibility of their basic job posting. Please see “What does ‘featuring’ a job entail?” for more information.

The prices for featuring jobs are as follows:

  • Featured Job - $49 / job
  • Job Spotlight - $99 / job
How will I be notified about applicants to my job postings?

When a candidate applies to one of your vacancies, you will receive an email notification to the email address you used to create your Golgi Jobs account. 

This will contain the details of the application, including:

  • The title of the position applied for
  • The applicant’s details:
    • Name and email
    • CV and covering letter
    • Answers to any additional questions set by you when you posted the role
    • Candidate profile (i.e. a link to their profile on the Golgi site)

You can also review the details of the applicants to each of your positions via the applicant management page (see the question below).

How can I review and manage the applicants to each of my positions?

Previous applicants can be viewed and managed via the applicant management page – this is accessed by selecting the ‘Manage Applicants’ option from the account dropdown list (located in the top right hand corner of the page, when logged into your employer Golgi account).

Here, you’ll be able to:

  • View (and download) each of applications submitted for your role. 
  • Notify candidates of changes in the status of their applications, i.e:
  • Mark applications as ‘Under Review’ when you’ve seen them.
  • Mark applications you don’t wish to progress as ‘Rejected’

Golgi is aimed at connecting companies directly with high-quality candidates from our network – thus, if you wish to invite an applicant to interview (or extend an offer), you should reach out directly to that applicant via the email address they provided with their application. 

Employers: Who can see my profile?

Employer profiles are visible to all Golgi account holders.

How can I get more visibility for my jobs?

There are several possible approaches to ensure more candidates view (and apply to) your vacancies:

  • Make sure your company profile is completely filled out – including your team members, size, location, etc. 
  • Be descriptive and persuasive in your company profile and job listings:
    • Provide candidates with as much information as possible. Do you offer an attractive relocation package, or job perks? Do you work with impressive clients, or are you carrying out exciting work at the cutting-edge of the industry? Make sure you mention all such factors in your listing.
    • Get in touch with the Golgi team, and let our experts assist you in polishing the content of your company profile and vacancies, in order to ensure they look their absolute best to potential candidates. See the question below for more information.
  • Login to the Golgi platform regularly, and be responsive to candidates who reach out to you.
  • Make use of Golgi’s ‘feature’ upgrades to display your jobs prominently to those within (and beyond) Golgi’s community of jobseekers (see 'What does 'featuring' a job entail?').
I’m not sure how best to present my company and / or my vacancies – can Golgi help me out?

Of course! Whilst bringing great people onboard is a crucial contributing factor to the future success of any company, we realize that many small companies are more preoccupied with preparing for the next round of funding than thinking about the best way to present their companies – and vacancies – to potential new hires. 

We’re here to help. The Golgi team has substantial experience in polishing the content of company profiles and vacancies to make them shine, and we’d be very happy to assist you in adjusting any company information or job postings you submit to Golgi. This will help ensure you do justice to your company, and attract the best possible candidates your way.

What happens if my listing expires and I haven’t found the right candidate?

Don’t worry. You won’t always find the right candidate overnight - it usually takes time and patience to find the right person for the job. If your listing expires and you haven’t found who you were looking for, you can always republish your posting (see the link in the email we’ll send you at this time).

I’m not happy with the service I received with Golgi – what should I do?

We’re very sorry to hear your experience with Golgi was not a satisfying one. We’re dedicating ourselves to improving the recruitment ecosystem for startups and SMEs, and so it’s crucial to us that every company we work with is delighted with our service.

GENERAL FAQ
How should I report bugs and security vulnerabilities?
If you discover a security vulnerability, please email us confidentially at bugs@golgicareers.com so we can fix it. Please do not discuss it publicly, or use it to destroy the site.
Candidates & Employers: What are the general rules and guidelines for use of the Golgi platform?
Use of the Golgi platform is subject to certain key rules (please see our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy for further information).
How do I delete my account?
We’re sorry to hear you’re thinking of leaving us. 

Both applicants and companies may permanently delete their accounts by selecting this option on the ‘Account Settings’ page (reached by the account dropdown list in the top right hand corner of the page, when logged into your Golgi account). 

Selecting this option will delete both your account and your company / candidate profile. Remember – deleting your account removes it permanently from our system – so once this has been done, you will not be able to recover any information lost.
